| About SatCat. |
28/01/2003 |
SatCat is a Tcl/Tk application which acts as an alternate (and also offline) browser for data available at www.satcodx.com.
You can browse satellite channels (data/tv/radio) by satellite.
Supported platforms: virtually platform that Tcl/Tk can run on. Check http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActiveTcl/system_requirements.plex for more information.
Installation: Before using SatCat, you must install Tcl/Tk. Notes on how to install, also download links for Tcl/Tk can be found at http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Downloads/ActiveTcl/Install_Notes. NOTE: Use TCL 8.3.5, or 8.4.1. Version 8.4.2 exhibits a bug described here.
After you install Tcl/Tk, download latest version of SatCat, and unpack it (choose to keep the directory structure, it will create a directory called 'satcat'). Inside that directory there is the main program, called 'satcat'tcl'. On Windows double click on that program, while on Linux open a terminal, change into that directory, and run it with command 'wish satcat.tcl'. I don't have other platforms to test it on, so you're on your own with other than Windows and Linux.
Once you start the program, you will have to manually use the Update -> Channels feature, which will update all the channels, also with coverage images. This download is about 26 Mbytes, so it will take a while. You will not see the coverage images, unless you first use the update in the menu !!!. Once you updated, next time you will choose update, only coverage images that are not already there will be retrieved, so next time the download will be much smaller (around 2-3 Mbytes instead of 25+). Also, when choosing to Stop the update process, it will take some time after you click the Stop button, to the time it actually stops. Please be patient. Thanks.

Here you can download latest channel files (files you have in the data directory of your SatCat installation). This file is generated once a day, around 00:10 every night, in GMT+2 time.
Click on the file name to download: channels.tar.gz (aprox 300Kbytes).
Once you downloaded the file extract it then place the 2 files from the archive inside the SatCat 'data' directory. After that, start SatCat, and it will use this new channel files.
